Our journey will end at the time of rebirth in England, in the year 1500. This time period, known as the Renaissance, was the birthplace of great playwrights, such as William Shakespeare. Here in the Renaissance, the theater of the middle ages gets refined.

Itinerary

Globe Theater

Picture
This theater, an oval shaped arena with three levels of seating, was where Elizabethan theater was first performed. We will travel to one of these places, the Globe Theater. While at the Globe Theater, we will learn the differences between public theater and private theater in the Elizabethan era.

Hamlet

While we are visiting the Globe Theater, we will have the opportunity to see one of Shakespeare's greatest works, Hamlet. The poetic language is still as vivid today as it was then. In fact, Hamlet is still a popular play today, just as it was then. Why? We will find out when we watch it at the Globe Theater!

Shakespeare

Picture
As theater time travelers, it is imperative that we get to know William Shakespeare! Luckily for us, he is willing to help us with this. We will be attending a playwright workshop where Shakespeare will give us tips on writing using iambic pentameter, and the elements needed to write a good play, such as stock characters.

Costume Workshop

To wrap up our time tour, we will look at the evolution of costumes since the Grecian era. We will discover what the actors wore, and we will even try our hands at designing our own costumes. Were costumes as important then as they are now?
